Lawmakers Join Cooperative Caucus
Two state legislators who represent Rich Mountain Electric’s members have joined the Arkansas Rural Electric Cooperative Caucus (ARECC). The first-of-its-kind effort educates lawmakers about the state’s electric cooperatives and the energy issues shaping Arkansas’ future.
We thank the following legislators for joining the caucus:
- Rep. John Maddox, District 86
- Rep. DeAnn Vaught, District 87
ARECC was formed to help lawmakers better understand electricity, energy resources, emerging technologies, industry trends and the growing demand for power in Arkansas. Members also will have opportunities to tour energy generation facilities and gain firsthand insight into the infrastructure needed to produce and deliver reliable electricity.
Vernon “Buddy” Hasten, president/CEO of Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc., said, “We look forward to working with the Arkansas Rural Electric Cooperative Caucus to provide key industry information for the members. The caucus members will gain fact-based information about the energy industry, which involves many complicated components.”
At the caucus’ first meeting earlier this year, Hasten provided an overview of Arkansas’ growing energy demands, including the impact of data centers, and discussed the development of natural gas generation in the state.
By joining the caucus, legislators demonstrate their strong commitment to protecting rural ratepayers, ensuring grid reliability and keeping electricity affordable for families, farms and businesses. Rich Mountain Electric looks forward to partnering with these local lawmakers as they work to safeguard Arkansas’ energy future and support continued regional economic growth.
